Together for Patients: MCUK Joins Medical Cannabis Awareness Week 2026

Medical Cannabis Awareness Week returns this November – and MCUK is proud to be part of it.

Across the UK, medicinal cannabis is becoming an important treatment option for many people managing long-term health conditions. Yet despite the growing number of patients receiving prescriptions, misunderstanding and misinformation remain widespread. Many people still face confusing terminology, uncertainty around access, stigma, and a healthcare system that is continuing to evolve.

Awareness matters.

And that’s why, this November, MCUK will be joining organisations, professionals, patients, advocates and members of the wider medical cannabis community for Medical Cannabis Awareness Week (MCAW) 2026.

You can learn more about the campaign and explore the full programme at the official MCAW website.

A Week for Patients, Led by the Community

Medical Cannabis Awareness Week is a collaborative, community-driven campaign designed to bring people together to learn, share experiences and have honest conversations about medicinal cannabis in the UK.

The 2026 campaign will run online from 2–8 November, featuring discussions, educational content, patient stories, community activities and live events.

This year’s theme is:

Together for Patients

A theme that reflects something central to MCUK’s mission: progress is strongest when patients are at the centre, and when the whole community works together.

Patients, prescribers, clinics, pharmacies, researchers, producers, advocates and organisations all bring different perspectives. When those voices come together, we gain a clearer picture of where the UK medical cannabis sector stands today and where it needs to go next.

Putting Patient Voices at the Centre

One of the most important parts of MCAW is hearing directly from patients.

Behind every prescription is a person.

Someone who may have spent years searching for relief.

Someone who has faced stigma or disbelief.

Someone whose life has changed because they finally found a treatment that works for them.

Or someone still fighting to access the care they need.

There is no single “medical cannabis patient story”. Experiences vary widely – and that diversity matters.

Throughout MCAW, patient voices will shape the conversation about what it truly means to live as a medical cannabis patient in the UK: the challenges, the successes, the uncertainties and the changes still needed.

At MCUK, we believe patients should not simply be talked about.

They should be listened to.

More Than Awareness

Awareness is only the starting point.

Public understanding of medical cannabis is still limited – from what it is, to who can access it, to how prescribing works, to what patients experience once treatment begins.

There are also deeper conversations to have around access, affordability, stigma, education and the relationship between patients and healthcare professionals.

MCAW creates space to explore these topics openly.

Throughout the week, the campaign will highlight:

  • Patient voices and lived experience
  • What medical cannabis is and how it works
  • Life as a medical cannabis patient
  • Community and peer support
  • Education and better understanding
  • The future of medical cannabis in the UK
  • How collaboration can improve patient outcomes

The goal is to make MCAW informative without being inaccessible, inclusive without losing focus and, most importantly, a place where people feel comfortable asking questions.

Why MCUK Is Getting Involved

MCUK exists to improve outcomes for people prescribed medicinal cannabis across the UK.

As a patient-led organisation, we understand how important community can be. Navigating medical cannabis can feel overwhelming, especially for people who are new to treatment. No patient should feel they have to figure everything out alone.

Our involvement in MCAW is an opportunity to connect our community with a wider network of people researching, prescribing, supporting and living with medical cannabis. It also allows us to amplify the issues that matter most to patients and contribute to a national conversation about what needs to improve.

No single organisation has all the answers.

Collaboration is essential.

By bringing different perspectives together, we can challenge misconceptions, share knowledge and, above all, keep the focus on the people at the heart of this conversation.

Get Involved

Medical Cannabis Awareness Week will take place online from 2–8 November 2026, making the campaign accessible to people across the UK.

You can find event details, updates and ways to take part at the official MCAW website.

We’ll also be sharing more information about the programme, speakers and community activities over the coming weeks.

Whether you’re a patient, family member, healthcare professional, researcher, industry professional, advocate or simply someone who wants to learn more, there will be opportunities to get involved.

You don’t need to be an expert.

You don’t need to have all the answers.

You just need to be willing to listen, learn and join the conversation.

Together for Patients

We’re excited to be part of MCAW 2026 and to help bring the medical cannabis community together for a week of education, conversation and patient-led stories.

Because this isn’t about organisations competing for attention.

It’s about the people who rely on medical cannabis, and the people working to make their experiences better.

Together, we can make sure patients are heard.

Together, we can raise awareness.

Together, we can help shape the future of medical cannabis in the UK.
